In the last two decades, the discovery and classification of topological insulators and superconductors has revolutionized condensed matter physics. In many model systems, such as cold atoms trapped in optical lattices, the topological phases of matter can be tuned by time-periodic variation of some parameters, i.e., periodic driving. Periodic driving can also create unique topological phases, these are also known as Floquet topological phases of matter. The PhD student will do theoretical research into Floquet topological phases of matter, using mathematical toy models such as quantum walks or random quantum circuits, numerical modeling, and give proposals for experimental realizations.
Good knowledge of quantum mechanics, basic knowledge of condensed matter physics, affinity for numerical work.
