Description:

The main topic of the Ph.D. project is the investigation of hybrid systems consisting of one- or two-dimensional cages and scaffolds (nanotubes, few-molecular layers) and small molecules. Simple preparation methods (filling by sublimation and from solution) will be applied and the resulting samples will be studied by spectroscopic and microscopic methods: infrared and Raman spectroscopy including nanoscale methods (ATR, IRRAS),  near-field infrared microspectroscopy and comparison of the results with electron microscopy images. Structure and dynamics of the molecules and their chemical reactions on the nanoscale can be detected this way, leading to possible applications in nanoelectronics. The spectroscopic measurements will be performed in the Laboratory for Advanced Structural Studies of the Institute for Solid State Physics and Optics, Wigner Research Centre for Physics, and electron microscopy in collaboration with the Institute for Technical Physics, Centre for Energy Research.

Requirements:
Basic training in solid state physics, interest in chemistry, enthusiasm for experimental work, solid English knowledge.
Status:
